Laser Therapy at Corsentino Chiropractic
Our practice offers laser therapy for patients; it’s an adjunctive service that complements chiropractic and is recommended for anyone involved in an accident, including a car accident or a sports injury.
It’s a non-invasive and drug-free approach to promoting healing and reducing pain in a wide range of conditions, from musculoskeletal injuries to neurological disorders.
Laser therapy helps alleviate acute and chronic pain conditions like back, neck, joint, and musculoskeletal pain by reducing inflammation and promoting tissue healing. It can improve neuropathic pain, such as nerve compression or neuropathy. And at our practice, it also has great results in plantar fasciitis patients.
How the Therapy Works
Laser therapy utilizes specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular processes within the body. When the laser device is applied to the skin, the photons (particles of light) emitted by the laser penetrate into the underlying tissues.
Once absorbed, the photons interact with cellular components, particularly with structures called mitochondria. These are often referred to as the “powerhouses” of the cell because they are responsible for producing energy in the form of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). The interaction between photons and mitochondria stimulates an increase in ATP production.
The increased ATP production then leads to various biological responses within the cells. These responses include enhanced cellular metabolism, improved circulation, increased protein synthesis, reduced inflammation, and modulation of cellular signaling pathways.
The Healing Power of Light
During laser therapy, most individuals do not feel any sensation or discomfort. The low-level laser used in therapy does not generate any heat, so patients usually experience only a slight warming sensation or tingling at the treatment site.
It is generally well-tolerated and considered to be a comfortable and non-invasive treatment option for various conditions.
